Girls just want to have fun outfit links: Purple Sweater- Topshop, Blue Jeans- Paige, Navy Sweater- Love by Design, White jeans- Old Navy (post here)
This Nordstrom Anniversary Sale was the most fun one yet! Maybe it was my shopping buddies (my sister @tellittoyourneighbor and photographer extraordinaire @traciling), or maybe it was my attitude…
This time, I put on my scrutinizing, stylist hat (more so than before) because I refused to be hoodwinked by a SALE just for the sake of it being a SALE. I had requirements.
I decided that I was only going to pick up and/or recommend an item if…
- it’s a good fit (it had to fit all three of us well – no wide gaping shoes, no large arm holes, no crop tops, no ill fitting in the crotch pants and jumpsuits)
- it’s good quality (no puckered seams, loose threads, cheap looking leather)
- it’s practical (no uncomfortable shoes or fussy handbags)
- it’s versatile (whether it’s a staple or a fun item, I can wear it a lot)
- it’s a good value (cost per wear was my guide)
- it’s NEW to the sale and on trend (no same ole, same ole items)
- AND if I’d pick it up even if it weren’t on sale!!!!
One might think I’m overthinking this a bit, and they may be right, BUT it’s for our benefit, right?! In the end, this is just FUN, but if I’m going to spend my money on items, I want to spend them on good items whether it’s part of a SALE or not.
This year, I’m doing something a bit different. I’m starting with a post of the items that were selling out in the store while we were shopping. I figure that’s valuable information! I’m sure there are other items that are selling out, but these are the ones I tried on, liked and met my requirements!!!!!
Pink Leather Longchamp Tote-
This was selling like hotcakes! I snagged the last one in the store. I carry my black nylon Longchamp bag with me on all my trips (it’s on sale, too (here)). I wear it as a carry-on and then use it when I need a bag during my trip (which is often with kids, but come to think of it, when I’m with my husband, too), so I know I’ll get a lot of use out of it! I plan to use my suede and nubuck protector on it (I love that stuff!)
This leather version comes in black, blush, wine and green! Oh goodness, now I want the black!
VINCE look alike wool coat-
This coat is by Kenneth Cole! There were only three of these coats left on the rack, and I think I know why. This coat is so expensive looking because it’s void of any cheesy hardware that would date it in two years. It’s a great fit because the notches come in and aid in giving a waistline. The sleeves are sweater material, so my arms didn’t feel restricted under the sleeve and I could move my arms freely even though I had a coat on. And it’s the perfect weight- not a full on coat but will still definitely keep me warm on a cool fall/winter day. For sizing reference: I’m wearing a regular xs.
FRAME jeans-
They were sold out of my size of these jeans in the store, so I had to try on the smaller size (which might explain the bracing myself look of the first picture hahaha). If you love FRAME jeans like I do, these won’t disappoint! I really love the wash on these faded black jeans. They’re perfect to add to your closet to give your sweaters a new look by pairing with a different color of jeans. They have raw edges, which makes it really easy to cut them off at the bottom to make them shorter without changing the look. For sizing reference: I’m 5′ 8″, denim runs TTS. (Oh, and the sweater is darling and part of the sale, too! I’m wearing a US size 2.)
FRAME jeans online-
They did not have these in the store, but I also love the look of these! So if you love FRAME, check these out, too!
Sherpa jackets-
There was only one of these in my size (xs) in the store.
They only had a small of this one…
Both of these jackets are darling, and if you ask me, decidedly different than the sherpa jackets by the outdoor active wear brands we’ve all seen and love. These feel a little bit more fashionable to me. The top one is a bomber jacket look and the second one is a more relaxed fit. For sizing reference: I’m wearing an xs in the bomber jacket and a small in the relaxed jacket (I wanted to try the xxs, but it was already sold out).
Paul Green black slip ons-
They only had a few of these shoes left in store! I wear my black tennis shoes, black flats, and black sandals more than any other shoes in my closet. These seem like a hybrid of all of my most worn shoes, so they were a no brainer! Plus, I’ve never seen a black espadrille slip on that has a dressier look to it, which makes them more versatile! For sizing reference: This slip on runs big! I went down an entire size. The site recommends going down a half a size. I’m an 8.5 narrow and the 7.5 fit great.
The next few items are what I predict will sell out quickly…
Wedge booties-
Lucky Brand bootie in Sesame suede (also comes in black suede, snake leather, chinchilla suede, antique green suede, cheetah suede, and soil suede)
I predict these will sell out quick because they remind me of the Tom’s wedge booties that so many of us had and loved but can’t wear anymore because they are worn to shreds. I say this because I’ve seen them in so many of my clients closets completely worn out. Usually a shoe like this is popular because it makes sense, and in this case, the wedge makes it more practical than a heel. It’s not too high, the color is the perfect neutral, it doesn’t look super trendy, which is what makes it a great dressy-casual, comfortable, neutral shoe option! For sizing reference: this bootie runs TTS.
Adidas sneakers-
I predict these will sell out quickly because they remind me of the Adidas Ultraboost that are so popular, but they’re a third of the price! These are super, super comfy, and they come in a pretty white, too!
Dana Rebecca Necklaces:
Dana Rebecca Square necklace, Dana Rebecca Bar necklace
I predict that these diamond necklaces will sell out quickly because they’re really great quality for a really great price (I know because I have another Dana Rebecca diamond necklace I bought a couple of years ago)! I love the dainty but sparkly aspect of her designs! I also love jewelry I can wear every day and never take off!
I’m excited to share more finds with you guys! But, I wanted to make sure I got these items out to you all ASAP! Leave me a comment because your comments make me happy!
Carly, thank you for the time and effort you put into your Anniversary sale posts each year! My first purchase from one of your recommendations was a pair of gray Cole Haan sneakers in 2016. I love the Kenneth Cole coat and the Adidas sneakers. I can’t wait for your other picks!
This comment makes me happy! Thank you, Lauren!
I follow a handful of fashion bloggers, but I always pay close attention to your advice in the end. I appreciate that you just post what you think is worth purchasing. I also think it’s great that you also had your sister and photographer try the items on too! Thank you.
Susan, This comment means so much! Thank you for noticing the extra effort.
