Women’s Gift Guide 2016

This is a different kind of gift guide. I decided to do a list of my favorite things (some fashion related, some not) that I use throughout the year. Once again, if you’re going to spend your money on gifts, you want them to be tried and true, and these items are.

Barefoot Dreams® Front Zip HoodieBarefoot Dreams hoodie and pants

Last year, I did an entire post solely on Barefoot Dreams items. If you’ve ever owned anything by Barefoot Dreams, then you know why. I have two Barefoot Dreams sweaters, which I like to call my “house sweaters”, that I wear nonstop, and I recently purchased this jumpsuit. I have also worn it nonstop, just ask my neighbors who stand out at the bus stop with me – ha! If there was one gift I could recommend that I know will be a winner, it’s anything by Barefoot Dreams.

What better to wear with your Barefoot Dreams than these comfy and unbelievably stylish slippers? Right now, my slippers are my old UGGS and truthfully, there’s nothing stylish about worn out UGG boots as slippers. I’m in major need of an upgrade, and these caught my eye immediately and are the perfect replacement.

diptyque Mini Candle Set (Limited Edition) (Nordstrom Exclusive)

Diptyque candle set

I didn’t realize this about myself, but I am a candle loving fool. There’s nothing that gets me going more, whether it’s doing the dishes or other mundane activities, than lighting a candle. It brings life into the room by adding scent, a little flicker, and ambiance. All that to say, if you have a candle lover in your life (like a mother-in-law or mom), how much would they love this Diptyque candle assortment? They could choose the scent depending on their mood, and what candle lover wouldn’t want to do that? My favorite Diptyque scent is Base and Figuere, but I’d love to choose from all of those scent options! My cousin recently gave her daughter’s teachers a Christmas candle, and I can’t think of a more perfect teacher gift. My favorite Christmas candles are the ones that smell like Christmas Trees, like my current favorite from Nest. A candle really is a perfect gift for anyone.

Love Necklace/ Treasure and Bond Earrings

Jewelry’s always a fun Christmas gift to receive. This ‘Love necklace‘ is one of my favorites. It’s a secret code necklace, and when it’s spun, it spells out the word love. I’ve worn it a ton, and it always adds a fun little something to my outfit. Then I ran across these earrings, and I just love them. They’re different and pretty and an edgy take on the pave diamond earring look. They would be perfect for New Years.

Kindle Paperwhite E-reader - Black, 6" High-Resolution Display (300 ppi) with Built-in Light, Wi-Fi

Kindle Paper White

Recently my original Kindle from 10 years ago broke. I knew there were new versions out, but I had become attached to my original Kindle and was worried that a backlit Kindle would keep me up at night. However, after going 1 day with a broken Kindle, I knew I couldn’t make it without one. So I read all the reviews and apprehensively ordered the Kindle Paper White, even though it was backlit. It promised to not have the blue light that effects your sleep, and it’s safe to say that it doesn’t keep me up at night- ha! There’s no glare, and it adjusts it’s lighting automatically based on your environment. So this serves as a reminder to ask for a Kindle, and if you’re tired of the book light, the Paper White is the way to go.

HP Sprocket Portable Photo Printer, print social media photos on 2x3 sticky-backed paper - white (X7N07A)

HP Sprocket

Can I just rename this device the mom printer? I am seriously about to go out and buy this for one of my son’s school projects that’s due on Thursday. You send pictures from your phone and it prints right then and there. How much more fun would projects, dinner parties (a picture would make a fun party favor), or play dates be with this fun printer. Heck, I might even change my family pictures in my house more than every 5 years- ha!

Marye Kelley coasters

Marye Kelley coasters

I have 4 of these coasters in my house. I keep buying more because every other coaster I buy doesn’t measure up to my Marye Kelley coasters. Heres why: they are big, therefore any size drink will fit. There are also perfect as a wine bottle coaster. If you have white marble counter tops, you know how important a coaster like this can be. They have a substantial lip, so there really is no sweating anywhere on your surface, and it makes it easy to put your drink back in the dark in the middle of the night. For me, it also stands as a catchall on my nightstand for my earrings and chapstick.

Shu Uemura Eyelash Curler with Silicone Refill, Silver

Shu Uemura eyelash curler

This is another great stocking stuffer or girlfriend gift. Recently, I’ve been giving my girlfriends this eyelash curler for their birthdays. It curls eyelashes like no other. I have had this eyelash curler since high school. They make the rubber strip out of strong silicon, so you don’t end up with the middle divet that cuts or pinches your eyelashes. Trust me on this one… just trust me.

Nike 'Performance' 3-Pack No-Show Socks

Nike Socks

Have you ever seen a more perfect stocking stuffer? These are my favorite footies that I wear with my booties, fashion sneaks, and flats. They are the first footies I’ve worn that actually stay on my feet, even after multiple wears. I had 6 pairs and now I only can find 2 pairs, which is why I will be asking for these for Christmas.

For splurge gifts for her/you, stay tuned for my final gift guide!

Kid’s Gift Guide 2016

From one mom to another, toys for Christmas can be pretty frustrating to buy. There’s always that element of wondering if the toy will be a waste of money. The good news for you is that I have just experienced a Thanksgiving with 6 kids and my son’s birthday, so I’ve had a mini focus group of toy testing with cousins and friends! This post consists of the winning toys! Well, and a few other great gift ideas I couldn’t help sharing.

Oh, and most of these toys will help with the cabin fever that will set in by about day two of the break. Ha!
Hasbro Pie Face! Game

Pie Face

The kids LOVE this game! We played it over Thanksgiving with all of the cousins, and it was fun for all, EVEN THE ADULTS. I love games we can all enjoy. You put whip cream on the plastic hand, you spin for a number and see if you get pie faced! I have to admit, I got a little grossed out after my first go round, but it was still fun to do with the kids!

Guess Who? Game Retro Series 1988 Edition

Guess Who?

Look familiar? My cousin bought this for the kids to play at Thanksgiving. Guess Who played it first? Pun intended. Ha!screen-shot-2016-12-12-at-8-43-38-pm

Table Topics

I have a secret obsession with Table Topics (more on that later). I recently bought these for fun to play with my kids. I learned more about them in ten minutes than I do spending an entire afternoon asking how school was in all sorts of creative ways. Here are a few of my favorite questions: What’s your favorite thing to do at recess? What do you consider your best qualities? If some go over their heads, I rephrase them. It’s the best game ever! I’ve put them by our kitchen table to play at dinner time.Jelly Belly Bean Boozled Jumbo Spinner 12.6 OuncesBean Boozled

Juicy pear or booger? Tutti-fruitti or stinky socks? Another fun hilarious game for ALL! I Iike this one because it comes with 45 individual little packs of jelly beans. That way, when it’s stored in the game closet, I don’t have to worry about bugs getting to it.

Goodnight Light

Pineapple/ Owl/ Cactus/ Dinosaur

How cute are these nighlights/lamps?!?! They are darling to have on a nightstand or desk for decoration, but then you realize they are nightlights/lamps and they become irrestiable! How cute would the wise old owl be on a bookcase in a play room, the pineapple be in a girls room, or the dinosaur be in a boys room? I love all the bright colors!

Monopoly Junior

I’m all for a board game that my sons can play by themselves! They love this game and…so do I! Can you blame me? HA!
ALEX Toys Artist Studio Fantastic Spinner

Fantastic Spinner

I’m not one for messes, but I remember loving spin art when I was a kid, so I acquiesced. My son got this one for his birthday. What I like about this version is that it’s hand operated, which seems to make it less messy. Typically, if the paint starts flying, they back off the spin (typically). Plus, I don’t have to change the batteries!

screen-shot-2016-12-12-at-8-53-58-pmBop It

I bought this to give as a birthday present to friends, but that didn’t happen. The boys started playing with it as soon as we got home from the store, while it was still in the box! They were having so much fun, we decided to keep it. Now we play it as a family! We love to play it in the mode where you can pass it around in a circle and either, bop it, twist it, or pull it. It’s so fun!

Chrono Bomb Action Game

Chrono Bomb

After receiving this game, my boys when straight to setting it up (I helped of course)! It’s like setting up an obstacle course in their room with a string that has clips you zig zag to different objects! Each time you touch the string, it buzzes. You can set the timer (bomb) to make it more fun!

After I finished a book, my Kindle recommended I read this book. At the time, I didn’t realize it was a kid’s book. In fact, it wasn’t until I was telling a friend about how GREAT this  book was that I realized it was for kids. Every kid should read this book. It’s about a boy who has an abnormality that affects his face. It’s written from his perspective, his sister’s perspective, and his friend’s perspective. It’s light hearted and fills you with compassion and a little bit more understanding of what it’s like in someone elses shoes. It’s a MUST! A perfect stocking stuffer. Maybe I’ll start reading it to my older son at night.

Up your kid’s fun dance parties with Spin-Balls! Turn off the lights, turn on the music, and they’ll have a ball! Well, at least mine did. I have an iPad full of Spin-Ball dance party videos to prove it!
S'well 'Hand Painted Satin Collection' Water Bottle

S’well Bottle

My friend told me this is the new thing at her daughter’s school. They all bring S’Well water bottles to school. She’s getting her kid’s names monogrammed on them with those cute peel and stick stickers. Knowing my slacker self, I’ll probably try to make my sharpie handwritting look pretty instead. Ha!
