Anniversary Trip: What I’m Wearing

My husband and I are headed to the California Wine Country for our wedding anniversary this weekend. I’m so excited to have some down time to just “be” (can you tell by my picture? -ha!). If there is one person I can “just be” with, it’s my husband. I’m so grateful for where we are in our marriage. In 12 years of marriage, we have both grown as humans, which I’m learning is what marriage is designed to do, if we let it. And we are in a good spot! No, we have not always enjoyed marital bliss (is marital bliss really a thing anyway? I digress), but we’ve kept the faith, which is what matters.

So here we are taking a trip to celebrate 12 years of marital bliss (hahaha, jk!). It’s important to me that I really enjoy myself on this trip and not worry about what I’m wearing. I have had an entire trip ruined because of how I felt in everything I put on. Yes, the entire trip was ruined, just ask my husband! That may be shallow, but it’s true. Maybe I’ve matured passed those feeling, but probably not. So I gladly started shopping for this trip last week by scouring the Nordstrom site! How’s that for last minute?! Well, they make it too easy to get your items in just a day or two. Ha!Coley' Plaid Maxi Shirtdress BB DAKOTA

Anyway, I was so excited when I saw this dress because I knew it was going to be perfect for our travel day! I mean, can you get anymore comfortable?? It’s like I’m wearing a night gown! I’ll wear my army jacket for when it gets cold on the plane, and if I get sick of wearing it…

…I’ll wrap it around my waist! Boom, best travel outfit I’ve ever owned! I also wore it to a breakfast for my girlfriend yesterday. It was perfect- dressy but casual.

The next day I’m headed to the spa for half the day. My plan is to wear my new sweater with leggings to the spa.

We have a late afternoon wine tasting, so I’ll switch to my coated denim when I leave the spa for the tasting.

Then dinner is on the dressier side, so I have the option to tuck my new sweater into my pleated leather skirt from J. Crew, or…

… I’ll wear my dress from the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale under my new sweater!

On Saturday we will probably walk around, shop, and explore the town a bit. This flutter sleeve top is SOOOO on trend, which is why the less expensive price point is perfect. It probably won’t be on trend next season, since it’s SOOOO on trend this season.

It looks like I’ll be packing light this trip! I only have one pair of pants, and I’ll be wearing the same shoes the entire time! It’s kinda nice to have an excuse to wear tennis shoes all the time! My ankle is slowly getting better, but the last thing I need is to re-injure my ankle. Talk about ruining a trip! Maybe tennis shoes should be the shoe of choice for Wine Country anyway. Ha!

I’ll try to post some trip pictures on Instagram, and maybe I’ll do a few Instagram Stories, too!

Suffer for Fashion?

J. Crew

I recently sprained my ankle very badly (you can kinda see it in this picture). Not only is my ankle swollen and black and blue, my entire foot is, too. My recent break from the blog and my ankle sprain forced me to realize that the pace of my life had become unmanageable and way too fast. I didn’t realize how much I go, go, go. I would rush from one thing to the next. I didn’t even have time to talk on the phone with my friends! I needed to slow down. Plus, what was all the rushing around for anyway? I now know why I was doing it, but more on this later. Now I’m taking things slow, and I’m reveling in it! I am more present for my boys, my husband, and my friends.

Anyway, I had two important events on my calendar that I wanted to go to. One was a luncheon and the other was a cocktail event. Well, if there is one thing I won’t do, it’s suffer for fashion! Ok, I  guess we all consider suffering to be different things, like I don’t consider wearing a bra or wearing tight jeans suffering for fashion. Ha! As a stylist, if a client felt uncomfortable or fidgeting in an outfit, I would immediately have her take it off and we would start over. J. Crew

There is nothing worse than constantly tugging or adjusting your outfit. It sets the tone for how you feel and act. There is also nothing worse than sticking your swollen, black and blue foot into heels or dress flats. So by golly, I was not going to suffer for fashion! Instead, I took a risk and wore sneakers to both events. Truthfully it was a calculated risk because sneakers are on trend right now. In NYC, people wouldn’t bat an eye, but I’m in conservative Houston, Texas. My intention was not really to make a fashion statement, although I got a ton of compliments (thank you to all my friends), but it was to be comfortable. Plus, I had a good excuse. Truth be told, once I can, I’ll wear my heels or dressy flats to those types of events again because that’s what makes me feel comfortable. Ok, if I get a wild hair, I may push the envelope again. Ha!

All that to say, we do not need to suffer for fashion. In this day and age, it’s backwards! Who cooks dinner in heels anymore?!
