What Works

Anthropology Button-Pleat Shirtdress

I think most people would shy away from this dress because it’s boxy and not form fitting.  I can just imagine my clients and friends saying, “There is no way I would look cute in that!”. I get it, but here are a couple of reason why this dress works and what to look for when buying a tent dress.

Anthropology Button-Pleat Shirtdress

1. Make sure the shoulder seams hit right at the end of your shoulders (this is very important with all tops/dresses). If the bottom of the dress is wider, the top needs to be an exact fit.

2. Look for a hem that hits above your knee. For example, if this dress hit me below my knees, it could make me look stumpy. Plus, the shorter hem line creates a fun feel and allows you to wear heels or flats and still look cute.

I needed to be a little dressier on this day, so I opted for a high heel wedge. I like how the structure of the pleats is mimicked by the structural lines of the dress.

To me (with any outfit) the accessories are like icing on the cake. If you take them away, the dress is still cute but isn’t reaching it’s full potential.  Here,  I feel like the accessories highlight the pleat detail on the dress.

Looking back on it, I should have rolled the sleeves. And next time I’ll probably wear it with flats and some colorful accessories!

You would look so cute with a long bob haircut! You’ve got the perfect face shape if you’d ever want to try it! Just a thought!
