Tips and Tricks: Cover-Ups

Tommy Bahama Boyfriend Shirt Cover-Up

For most of the summer and on my “Vacation Gone Awry“, I wore cover-ups almost everyday! For that reason, I want to share with you all my favorite cover-ups from this summer and why I liked them. I also want to share some tips and tricks on getting the beach/pool ensemble right (it’s harder than I thought). If I was a magazine, I would probably save this post until next summer, but then I would forget all this information -ha! And some of the cover-ups in this post are now on SALE! Not to mention, we are almost into the busy season for beach destinations! #resortwearTommy Bahama Boyfriend Shirt Cover-UpOutfit Links: Button up- Tommy Bahama, Swim Suit- Exact top in blue and similar bottoms, Shoes- Tkees for similar, Bag- Billabong for similar, Necklace- Gorjana for similar, Bracelets- Alex and Ani and  Urban Outfitters here, here, here and here, Earrings- Argento Vivo, Sunglasses- Prada for similar, Fedora- J.Crew (size up, it runs small)

First off, I think my favorite kind of cover-up is just a plain button up. Out of all the cover ups in my closet, I seem to go to this one the most. Here is why: The buttons make it is easy to take on and off, since I don’t have to pull it over my head. And since it’s white, it goes with everything. I also like that when it gets wet, it doesn’t get heavy. And finally, I like that this particular button up covers my rear.

I love using a chambray shirt as a cover up (remember this one from “Favorite Finds“?!?!). They are perfect for when you might go eat at a restaurant after you’ve been at the pool or beach. All you have to do is throw on some shorts and leave your shirt unbuttoned, or button it up depending on the situation. If need be, you can almost completely cover up the fact that you’re in a swimsuit.

I found myself wearing a hat this summer, more than any other summer before. Maybe it’s because I’m getting a little paranoid about sun damage. I found that my fedora (even with the black ribbon) went with everything. I only wish it had a hole in the top for my bun to stick out (ha! imagine that), but for now I’ll settle for a low bun.

I like colorful bags for pool/beach bags. I like them because they are happy and fun, but I also like them because they seem to go with whatever I’m wearing. After having this realization, I bought this one (which I love), because it was larger and I loved the colors!

Left: I’ve been skeptical of sheer cover-ups. They seem to show too much and are a little too racy for me. Although, this one didn’t feel too sheer, and I felt comfortable. What is also nice about a sheer cover up is that, just like the white button up, it goes with all your suits and it’s light weight. My friend mentioned that she would like to wear it as a tunic- great idea!  And lucky for you guys, it’s on SALE!

Center: I love colorful cotton cover-ups! I bought this Lemlem knock off last year from Anthropologie! The great thing about colorful cover-ups is all the colors keep me from worrying about what it “goes” with! I just throw it on and try not to worry about matching.

Right: A pair of shorts can make for the perfect cover up when you are wearing a one piece. This is my go to trick when I’m in a hurry, because it’s so easy! Throw on some shorts and go!
