I’ve always been a fan of the dainty, layered necklace look. I would always see pins of layered looks on Pinterest and be in awe of how great they looked. But when I would try to create my own layered look at home, it never looked quite right. Well, the other day I decided to make it happen. I spent over an hour at Nordstrom with Chimere coming up with the perfect look. I learned a ton, so I wanted to share it with you guys! But not to worry, if you’re not into coming up with your own look, I have a big trick for you at the end of the post!
Here’s what I learned…
For the top two necklaces:
1. When buying the two shorter necklaces, make sure you are able to change their lengths with an extender (the chain, circle, chain, circle on the end of the chain).
2. Have the necklaces be different sizes or shapes (or shapes AND sizes, in my case).
3. Once you’ve chosen your necklaces, decide which one you like better on top and on the bottom. Then use the extenders to adjust them to the correct length!
For the long necklace:
4. When choosing your long necklace, you can always use a pendant you already have, but I personally like lariat necklaces and y-chain necklaces for this look. I really like that with lariat necklaces, you can adjust where the y hits based on the neckline of your shirt- like the picture below.
For the two shorter necklaces, I like Argento Vivo and Nadri, because they offer extenders and make pendant necklaces in varying shapes and sizes. I know because I spent an hour in Nordstrom finding all this stuff out-ha! Click here for their full selection- (Argentine Vivo & Nadri)
Here are a few of my favorites. Just pick two with different shapes and sizes:
For the longer necklaces, I like these y-chain options here and here. The lariat adjustable necklaces are harder to find, but here are a few of my favorites:
And you can dress your layered necklace look up with a change of shirt and some fancy earrings!

I love these – you have awesome picks! I think the best part is that you can wear layered necklaces with so many different necklines and they still look great!

When layering necklaces, can you mix silver and gold? One silver and two gold?
Yes! In fact, I’m wearing a silver necklace and two gold necklaces in the picture! I really like a mixed metals layered necklace look!
Which is the long necklace you have on? Thanks!
The long necklace I am wearing is from BaubleBar and it is no longer available. The BaubleBar Gold Enigma Necklace and the Gorjana Taner Necklace are very similar. I hope this helps.
Which long necklace do you have on? And is it ok to mix gold and silver?
Hi, Thank you for the comment! Check out the answers to the other comments.
I’d love to a link to your shirt! It is perfect with the layered necklaces. Thanks for this post. It was a good one!
The grey tank is Splendid and it is not longer available, booooo! The black shirt is Vince and it no longer available, double booooo!
When I layer my necklaces, even being careful with different lengths, they always get tangled.
Any tips for keeping them untangled?
Thanks so much!
Christine
Love this! My favorite layered looks have a stone or drop at the end of the lariat… feels like it gives a focal point to the whole look. Love the different necklines you styled with these.
