What I Wore | August 2, 2016

What I Wore: New Orleans

Rag & Bone/JEAN Canyon Tee

This past weekend, my husband and I, along with our good couple friends, went to New Orleans to see Guns N Roses. I have to be honest, I’m not a huge fan of New Orleans. I guess I should say, I’m not really a huge fan of the French Quarter. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not a teetotaler, but coming from my childhood, that stuff can sometimes get me down. All that to say, my husband, my friends and I decided to explore New Orleans beyond the French Quarter. And just in case you decide to do the same when you head to New Orleans, I have some great recommendations below.

But first, the outfits: This is what I wore to the Guns N Roses concert. I kept it simple with a comfy, black cold shoulder tee and some grey cargo pants that I bought at the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale last year! I edged it up with my spiked sandals and accessories.

Rag & Bone/JEAN Canyon Tee

Outfit Links: Earrings- Ettika; Necklaces- B.P. and Jules Smith; Bracelets- Nadri both here and here and Freida Rothman; Rings- Bauble Bar, B.P., and Nadri

I’m pretty sure the sandals and the accessories made this outfit. Oh, and the X cuff I have on is part of the #NSALE!

My friend and I totally got busted by a reader while taking this picture! (Hi, Maureen from Mobile!) In a sea of black and grey, cold shoulder tops, and black leather leggings, Maureen’s outfit was refreshing! She paired her GNR tee with blue jeans and cute light brown suede booties!

the perfect tunic in cotton camo

Outfit Links: Top- Trouvè and Madewell; Jeans- 7 For All Mankind; Sandals- K. Jaqeues for similar; Purse- ONE by Most Wanted; Necklace- Lulu DK; Sunglasses- Ray Ban

This is what I wore while shopping on Magazine Street. Without knowing it, I only packed grey, black, brown and green and everything pretty much went together! I wore my camo shirt around my waist for when we went inside and I was cold.

Michael Stars Knit Poncho Top

Outfit Links: Tops- Similar both here and here; Jeans- here (sold out), similar here Wedges- Pedro Garcia

We didn’t go anywhere too fancy, so I wore this outfit for cocktails and dinner. I just purchased these sandals from The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale, and they are exactly what I wanted. They’re a vampy, yet comfy sandal I can wear throughout the day and into the night.

Rebecca Minkoff Unlined Hobo Bag

Outfit Links: Top- Madewell; Leggings- Hue; Sandals- Jason Wu; Purse- Rebecca Minkoff; Sunglasses- Ray Ban; Necklace- Lulu DK; Earrings- Jules Smith; Watch- Kate Spade

This was my travel outfit. I still love these legging pants from last year’s Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. See, I’m still wearing my #NSale purchases from last year!

Recommendations:

We absolutely loved the WWII museum. People travel to NOLA just to go to this museum, and I see why.  It was one of the coolest museums I’ve ever been to. Scratch that, it’s one of the coolest museums I’ve ever experienced. It’s more than a museum, it’s an experience.

New Orleans is also known for it’s food, not just the French Quarter -ha! NOLA lovers are rolling their eyes right now like, “duh”. We ate at Peche, Coquette and Gautreau’s. I highly recommend them all. We really wanted to try Lilette, but it was closed. My friend also recommended St. James Cheese, Clancy’s and Shaya. Thanks LS, your recommendations were spot on.

We enjoyed cocktails at the newly renovated bar at The Pontchartrain Hotel and The Columns Hotel. We didn’t make it up to the rooftop bar at the Pontchatrain, but I so wish we did.

I enjoyed shopping on Magazine Street, but unfortunately, most of the boutiques were closed. We shopped the Antique Mall instead. My husband and I like to look at old stuff, so that was super fun!

A special thanks to my friend, Kathryn, for taking my pictures throughout the trip and to my friend, Lauren, for the great recommendations!

P.S. Did you know I’m giving away $1000 worth Nordstrom gift cards and there are less than 20 entries?!?! I originally posted about it here. Here’s how to enter:

All you have to do is take a picture and post it on FB or IG. For example: take a picture with your husband on a date night wearing the new jeans/earrings you purchased, post a picture of your new #NSale purchases that you’re excited about, or post a picture of the selfie you sent your girlfriend of the new boots you purchased, etc. Then all you have to do is two things: 1. tag me (on FB @cslstyle, on IG @cstyleblog), you don’t even have to say anything to me, 2. use the hashtag #cstyleinspo. If your IG account is private, screenshot your entry and direct message me! I’m not going to put a whole lot of restrictions on this giveaway, so get creative!  I’ll pick from your entries and give away $1000 worth of Nordstrom gift cards!

    Hi,
I love your style and I order most things you suggest. This may be an odd question, but I know you mention that you have larger breasts. I am not huge (36C) but I was wondering how you wear the cross body bag without making your breasts separate and pop out. Did not know if this ever bothered you?? It makes me very self conscious.

    Thanks

Hi Joyce, Thank you for your question! Sometimes it bothers me, but most of the time I just let it roll. I just love the ease of a cross body bag too much to let “the girls” stop me from wearing it. Ha! I hope this helps.

I’m from and live in New Orleans, and for some crazy reason, my husband and I wasted a kid free day to spend the day in the French Quarter on Saturday. We looked at each other and said ” duh”, why did we do this? Unless you are staying in the FQ, eating at some yummy famous restaurant, or hitting a great hotel bar… Us locals don’t go much. You have to know the local secret spots to hit and it sounds like you tried a few! Hidden gems everywhere. House stalking is also fun.
Love the outfits! I bought three of your recs… Love them all!

So glad you got to experience The Columns. It’s just an AMAZING place – IMO. Many a memory was created (and lost !) during college at that enchanting establishment. ❤️
