10 Favorite Things: Holiday Edition

Rent The Runway (the perfect alternative to your trendy purchases)- You have to read this. It’s not what you think! I have to say this is probably the thing I’m most excited about out of all 10 things! I was talking to my friend about how I had a couple events coming up (a few speaking engagements and a trip to the Bahamas) that I needed/wanted something cool for, but I didn’t want to spend the money on because I knew I wasn’t going to get a lot of wear out of them. That’s when she told me about RTR Unlimited. You can have 4 items from Rent the Runway in your closet at anytime for a monthly flat rate (they’re running a special right now for $119/month). That means I can get a fun going out top for a GNO, a fun dress for a Christmas party and still have two other spots to keep rotating items into my closet. To me, this is the perfect alternative to the trendy purchases I make every season! I’ve been having so much fun wearing something once and then sending it back, and I still have 3 other things in my closet to wear. It’s like a revolving 4 item purchase of high end clothes instead of trendy clothes you tire of after one season. This is conscious consumerism at its finest, and you can count me in! Especially when the dress I’m wearing is at Nordstrom for full price.

Makeup Eraser– My sister (@tellittoyourneighbor) is the one who deserves all the credit for this find. While shopping the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale together this summer, a lady in the makeup department started telling my sister about this towel. I, of course, (being the very nice person I am) avoided the sales lady like the plague. Turns out, this Makeup Eraser is amazing. Apparently, it has silver in it, and when you wipe it on your face, the silver is a like a magnet to your makeup and takes it all off! Well, I don’t really care how it works, but IT WORKS!! Every night, I wash my face with my Colleen Rothschild Cleansing Balm (that’s what struggling with acne in your teens will train you to do), but I could never get all my eye makeup off. But, my cleanser in combination with the Makeup Eraser takes it all off!!! I don’t even have to use eye makeup remover anymore. (Shows me to avoid a nice, sweet sales lady.)

Blue Light Glasses– My phone and computer have ruined my eyes. No, seriously. I’ve had great vision all my life, and all of a sudden, I started to not be able to focus on things close to my face (when reading books, the lines started to cross), I started to see double when I looked at the tv, and the headlights started to hurt my eyes so badly that I felt like I couldn’t drive at night. Well, come to find out (from Dr. Bridget Lee), these are all signs of digital eye strain. The reason the headlights hurt my eyes is because the new ones are made with LED blue lights!!!! Well, when I put these glasses on, all my issues go away!!! I love the clear but they come in a variety of colors, so you could do a fun color or do a color to match your outfit! I also purchased a blue light blocking screen for my i-phone X and my boys i-pad.

Smart wool bootie socks– I love wearing boots and booties, but I have a few problems with them. My feet get really cold in the winter when I wear my regular cotton footies with my booties. Also when I wear footies, the bootie rubs my ankle bone. Well, not anymore! These bootie socks are lightweight wool, and they cover the ankle bone! Plus, they add a little more coverage for warmth!

Drug Store Mascara– I love a good mascara. My favorite high end mascara is Volume Effet Faux Cils Mascara by YSL, but at $29 a pop, I had to find a good drug store alternative. And that I did with L’Oreal’s Lash Paradise. It’s 99% what YSL is but for a third of the price. I buy it in bulk and go through 1-2 tubes a month.

Favorite Black Base Layer (Splendid dress, Black Paige Coated Denim, Black Paige Skinny Jeans, Black Pixie Pant, Commando Leather Leggings) – One of the easiest ways to figure out what to wear to your holiday festivities is to have a jumping off point. And, if you ask me, the easiest jumping of point is a black base layer. Whether it be a black pant, jean or coated denim, throw on a festive top, put a blazer on top for warmth and wear a heel or bootie. But, my personal favorite black base layer right now is this black Splendid dress. I have been able to wear this dress a million different ways- with a sweater over it, with a belt and a sweater, and I dressed it up by putting my new sheer shirt under it! I made my own cocktail dress!

Tabby Belt– Which brings me to my new favorite way to bring new life to all the dresses in my closet. Since I’m trying to get out of my jean rut, I’ve started to try and wear more dresses. But, when it turned cold, I was finding it hard because I needed more warmth. That’s when I put my all-time favorite sweater on top of this dress. It looked really cute, but I knew I needed a waistline. So, I pulled out this belt that I haven’t worn in years. I put it around my waist and tucked my sweater into it, and it looked darling!!! Now, it’s my favorite thing to do!

White Sneakers– I’m seeing white sneakers everywhere, and it seems chunky and clunky are in. For me, I wanted a white pair of sneakers that were void of hardware, brand names and clunk -ha! Which is why when my S-I-L told me about these, I ordered them immediately! I love wearing them with dresses for a casual, edgy vibe, and I’m also pairing them with a my sweater and jeans outfits to give them a fresh feel!

Vince Booties– Since purchasing these booties, I’ve worn nothing else! And if you’re not into the price, my friend, Kathryn, found an excellent steal version on Amazon! I love this style because they can be dressed up or down. The look great with leggings and skinny jeans, as well as dresses.

Non-Itchy Sweaters Trick- If you follow along on the blog or on social media, you know I’m majorly over itchy sweaters. I even find that cashmere can be itchy these days, depending on the quality and grade. So, I have a trick on how to find non-itchy sweaters, and I wanted to share it with you! Websites (specifically Nordstrom) are now allowing you to search for sweaters by material! So, I found a whole bunch of super soft sweaters by choosing to see sweaters with chenille, cotton blend, 100% cotton, fleece, microfiber and synthetic. But, before you purchase the new non-itchy sweater, be sure to click on item details to see if there is even the tiniest bit of wool.

Your suggestion for L’Oreal mascara was perfect…I haven’t worn mascara this year at all because I couldn’t find one that works without flaking in my eyes and irritating them.. (I wear contacts.) Thanks so much!

I’m so glad to hear this! My friends really like the waterproof version, as well.

Instagram post 2195345464194635668_346520480 SALE ALERT!!! I just found my favorite VINCE booties on SALE in the flint color!!! I'm wearing them in this picture and haven't stopped wearing them (swipe right to see another angle)! I desperately wanted the light grey (flint) color after seeing them on my cousin at Thanksgiving. I stalked every website last week with no luck, but today I decided to try again and found them ON SALE for 30% OFF!!! WAHOOOOO! Merry Christmas to me!!! Do you think I'll be disciplined enough to wait until Christmas to wear them? What's your bet? For sizing reference, I have a narrow foot, so I did not go up half a size. Head to stories for more information about the SALE and for a swipe up to the booties or --> http://liketk.it/2HYAX #liketkit @liketoknow.it
Instagram post 2193253511504173242_346520480 I’m really grateful this year because my mom friends really helped me come up with the most incredible gift guide for kids! There are so many great ideas that would be perfect for anyone, and they’d make great group gifts for all your kids, too! They’re so incredible, in fact, that it’s the first year I have too many gift ideas for my boys! That never happens, and it really has me excited to write this post!! So, to all the “Lionesses,” thank YOU!!! http://liketk.it/2HSW8 #liketkit @liketoknow.it
Instagram post 2191718582659250494_346520480 First, let’s make a pact. If you buy one of these items for the baby girl in your life, you HAVE to send me a picture of her in it!!! I will gush and be so happy! I don’t have a girl to dress, so I beg you!!! If you share a picture with me of your darling baby girl in any of these items, I promise to share it on Instagram. Unless, of course, you don’t want me to, and then I’ll just treasure it all to myself! It will make my Christmas! Anyway, I could look/search for cute girls gifts ALL DAY, so “researching” for these sponsored posts was too much fun!!! And @nordstrom has so many CUTE girl gifts (hello, cute unicorn ear muffs!), I had to break up the items up into two #sponsored posts- Big Girl/Tween last week and Baby Girl today!! Head to www.cstyleblog.com to read why I chose these items or —> http://liketk.it/2HNAx #liketkit @liketoknow.it
Instagram post 2187112974338999212_346520480 Anthropologie has a little surprise for C. Style readers this Thanksgiving Day! C. Style readers get 30% off their site a day earlier than everyone else with code: CARLY30. WAHOO! I always find the most unique items at @anthropologie, like this top I can't stop wearing! They're the perfect place to go to get a little something unique to wear to your holiday festivities or for unique gifts! You can get the top I'm wearing and the best high rise jeans known to man (raise your hand if you love the Farrah High-Rise as much as I do!) in a metallic grey, cool animal print pattern or distressed black for 30% off -yay! But can I be honest? This makes me really thankful you. If you didn't trust me, these kind of opportunities wouldn't come to us. So, I just want y'all to know, I'm thankful for your trust in me and your readership. Oh, and all your comments, email and messages- they keep me going. Lots of love to you and your families on this Thanksgiving Day! Check out stories to see the other great items I've spotted at #anthroplogie recently! #sponsored http://liketk.it/2Hpib #liketkit @liketoknow.it
Instagram post 2186430054548360791_346520480 “What jeans do you recommend for men?” “What pants do you recommend for men?” I’ve been asked these two questions quite a bit recently. And I was disappointed to find that it was very difficult to find this information on C. Style. Well, I’m remedying this issue right now with this post! These are all tried and true menswear recommendations. All the items can be vouched for by my VERY picky husband (nothing wrong with being picky, btw) and his friends. And if you don’t believe us, check out the reviews! (For sizing reference, my husband is 220 lbs and 6′ 5″.) http://liketk.it/2HpJV #liketkit @liketoknow.it
Instagram post 2186131601625146819_346520480 #soniceiworeittwice...thrice....ok, a lot. I'm finding since I prioritized buying non-itchy sweaters at the beginning of the season, they're the only sweaters in my closet that I want to wear! I switched things up by pairing this grey sweater with navy coated denim and black suede booties. If you have a grey sweater you need to give new life to in your closet, try pairing it with navy and black. It's gives it an unexpected edge... that is, if you ask me. Ha! http://liketk.it/2HpKC
Instagram post 2185391615325825016_346520480 I’m starting with the gift idea I’m most excited about…1. Sleeping Bag– If you have a kid in your life, no matter who you are (aunt, grandma, god mother), this is a sure bet gift. How perfect is this for slumber parties?!? Heck, I could see my kids liking this sleeping bag so much that they pull it out when they watch tv. And my friend’s mom, who has bunk beds at her house, has her grandkids bring sleeping bags, so she doesn’t have to crawl up to the top and change the sheets every time… genius. 2. Plush Robe– need I say more? My boys love wearing their plush robes, and I love walking downstairs on a Saturday morning to see them wrapped up in their robes- so cute! Plus, they come in a number of different patterns, so you can pick which one looks like her style. Head to the blog to read more about the rest of these gift ideas from #nordstrom because I went a little nuts. I love little girl/tween clothing and products. I mean, how could I not? And I secretly want to buy my nieces and goddaughters the coolest presents (although, that usually ends up looking like an Elsa doll or makeup- ha!) So, when @Nordstrom asked me to do a #sponsored post on gifting, I knew just what I wanted to spend my time shopping for -girl’s gifts!! I could look at this stuff ALL DAY!!! http://liketk.it/2HjFb #liketkit @liketoknow.it
Instagram post 2171426413122738526_346520480 Even though I've been taking selfies for going on 7 years, I still find it embarrassing. I really don't like bringing attention to myself, so I get really embarrassed when a neighbor drives by and sees me taking a selfie at the end of my driveway. I have a lot of older neighbors. I wonder if they know what I'm doing? Maybe I should just start waving my hand, so they think I'm just waving at them. Hahahah! No, I think that would just make it even more awkward. The hardest part about this job for me is taking the pictures, hands down. http://liketk.it/2GyUw
