See the yellow shed on the right in the photo? It’s chock-full of all the things needed for a country property, and it’s about to fall down. No seriously, the roof caved in on the inside. 𤣠So, we need a metal building.
Now, this is what most metal buildings look like…
But this is what I envision our metal building looking like…
Now, I know this is a bit unrealistic (because these are wood barns, and we are building a metal building), but a girl can dream!! So Iām using the barns as my inspiration! I want it to match (or look like it goes with) our farmhouse.
We (my dad and I) started off with a basic sketch of the structure. In this picture, he drew two different cupola sizes for me to decide between. I decided on the 3ā ft cupola. There will be a total of 6 garage doors– 3 on each side. I hope it will feel like an open air building when you open all 6 doors.
Now to make the building pretty… I knew I wanted a clean farmhouse look, so we decided on gooseneck lights and divided-light doors and windows. Hereās a drawing of the front of the metal building when we were trying to decide which divided-light pattern to go with for the windows and the gooseneck light placement…
We decided to go with the window on the left of the double doors. And just in case you are looking for really great doors for a really great price, we found this door at Home Depot.Ā Iām in love with it! It will have windows that go all the way down (a 2×4 window pattern), but this is basically the door.
These are the windows…
These are the exterior and interior lights from Amazon…

Now, for the garage doors. Dad and I headed out to Halo Overhead Doors to check out their warehouse full of garage doors…
…and we found a white garage door that matched the white metal building. Thatās my dad holding the metal building sheet on the left. Heās the best. I didnāt really like the carriage door look, since itās not really a carriage house. So, after lots and lots of hemming and hawing (by me), we decided on this garage door.
After our garage door selection, my dad plugged it into his drawing, and I couldnāt be happier with the result! Have you ever seen prettier garage doors?!? If you have, donāt tell me. Hahaha!
Next step is designing the inside. For the bathroom, Iām taking inspiration from @miracleonthirtyfourth! Check out her sonās bathroom…
I forgot to tell yāall, my dad is an engineer! Iād be lost without him! After all this is said and done, I think Iām going to do something special with all his drawings! Let me know in the comments if you have any creative ideas of what to do with them!
Ok, that’s all for now! I’ll keep you updated as we make more progress on this project!
Frame his drawings and display in the new house?
Frame them and hang in new barn š
