“What designer shoes and handbags do you recommend?” has been one of the most frequently asked questions I’ve consistently gotten through the years. First off, I’m humbled you all care to know my opinion, so thank you. When Nordstrom asked me to share about their designer department, it was just the motivation I needed to actually put my opinion/philosophy on
pen and paper keyboard and internet? -ha! Nordstrom is a great place to buy designer because of their wonderful return policy. You can return or exchange without worry, and that makes all the difference when making an investment purchase! Now to my opinion/philosophy:
As a person who didn’t grow up surrounded by designer things (which I assume is most of us), I have a very pragmatic and practical approach. If I’m going to spend a lot of money on something (and when buying designer, that’s spending a lot of money to me), I want the item to last for many, many years to come. Therefore, when I buy designer items, I not only look for good quality, but I buy the CLASSICS! I want a high quality item that I can wear all the time! A classic that’s clean and minimal in design allows you to wear it with anything, adding subtle luxury to your everyday life.
For instance, the Gucci Mules I have on in the picture above are timeless. You know a shoe is a classic when you’ve seen them everywhere, you continue to see them everywhere year after year, you notice other lookalike shoes from other brands, and the brand has a variety of different versions of the same classic shoe (one of the tell-tale signs you are buying a brand’s classic). For example, in the case of the Gucci Mules, here are all the variations…
Another great advantage of a classic shoe is that you could potentially pass them down to a daughter/granddaughter because they will stand the test of time. Of course, these shoes will come and go in popularity as different fashion trends of the moment look good with them, but they will not go out of style. I could see these shoes in a resale store years from now where you’d buy them “vintage” for lots of money- ha!
Some other classics from other designer brands are:
to name a few…
That’s my philosophy when buying designer in a nutshell. You can’t go wrong when you buy the classics!
