Country House Update: Blue Room (Before and Now)

Let’s focus on something fun, shall we?! I feel like we all need it right now. I’ve been sitting on these pictures for awhile for a number of reasons, but mostly because I haven’t had the time to share them (it’s hard to post in the summer because my boys are home. Then, my oldest son got COVID at the beginning of the school year. He had mild symptoms and is doing well. I am so grateful.). And now that I sit down to share them, I want to procrastinate sharing them even more, because well, there is a darn pink candle that ended up looking like a penis in every picture (well, and the room isn’t done, done)!!!! Ha! But I’m posting anyway because done is better than perfect, and perfection is the enemy of progress (or good enough). AND regardless of all those reasons, I LOVE my new blue room and want to share it with all of you (pink penis candle and all). I’ve edited the pictures, so it’s not so terribly distracting, but I’ll include an unedited photo at the end (because aren’t you curious? Ha!).

Thanks to all of you, the room is painted the prettiest blue paint color (Parma Gray by Farrow & Ball). You may recall, I asked on stories for help selecting a blue paint color that was similar to my inspiration photo. I couldn’t be happier with how it turned out. So happy, in fact, that I want to paint the ceiling blue, too.

I love it so much, but I knew I needed to tie the blue around in the room (see progress picture below). The sofas are old and looking a little drab, so I thought adding some fresh, new throw pillows might do the trick! I headed over to Weidner Hasou because I saw some pretty pillows on their website, and I think they really brought the room together! Thanks again for your help, Genni!

Here’s how the room started…
Transitioning…
After I painted it the prettiest blue (Parma Gray by Farrow & Ball)…. thanks to you guys!
Laying out my collection for over the fireplace on the floor before I hung it up on the wall…
A few fun facts:
The rug is from Overstock.
The shades are Natural Woven Wood Shades by Bali in Faroe Twine (Faroe Oyster is the lighter color) from Home Depot.
The sofas are from Pottery Barn.
The horses butt is a bottle opener my husband found in the fields of Round Top. It look great on the wall, doesn’t it?
The cowboy painting and the painting underneath were painted by my mom. She was a very talented artist.
All the other art over the mantel was collected in the fields of Round Top.
All the lamps in the room were my husband’s grandmothers. I love them all.
The cute poofs are from a vendor at Blue Hills in Round Top!
Most of the furniture was from the previous home owner.
And the picture we’ve all been waiting for….

HAHAHAHA!

My questions you:
1.) Because the fabric on the Pottery Barn sofa is looking a little worn, I’m thinking of either replacing the sofa or slipcovers. What color do you think I should consider? Btw, these couches get VERY dirty. Dogs, kiddos, adults and dirt from the country all end up on these sofas.
2.) Do you think I should paint the entire room blue inducing the ceiling and beams. If yes, what color do I paint the fans?
Let me know your opinions in the comments!
I hope you all enjoyed these pictures of the blue room y’all continue to help me create! Thanks again for all your help! I love the way it turned out!

I would slipcover the sofas in performance twill or a sunbrella fabric – I’d do off-white.

Lovely room! And with a house full of boys, the pink candle is a “conversation piece?” Haha! If you are considering painting the ceiling blue, I would leave the beams white otherwise they may disappear and I think they are a nice detail. As far as the sofas, have you laundered the slip covers? If the body of the sofas are in good condition, I would keep them. Here’s a suggestion-if the slips have stains even after washing, consider dying them. Basic RIT dye is really good and easy to do. If you are considering replacing them, you have nothing to lose and that would be a fun process to document for the blog! Best wishes!

Sandy! What a great suggestion!! I love making things work, so I love this idea! Hmmmm, now the question is what color dye? The slipcovers are stained badly by bleach (after washing), so there are lighter sections. I would think I need to use a darker dye. Anyway, you just gave me lots to think about. Thank you!
